Old Business:
-Tommie Gooch ask members to get their recipes into her or Joyce Kitts by the next meeting in August, if they want their recipes in our cookbook. Our goal is to have CCSC cookbook ready by Xmas.
-Sight-seeing tour of CC Lake for our elderly adults sponsored by our club, the Rotary Club, & Senior Citizens has a new date. Senior Citizen Center has suggested late Sept or early Oct is better because of our hot temperatures & the advisories for elderly to stay in out of the heat.
New Business:
-Hunter Education Course will be here at the clubhouse on Sept 10, 7:30am to 5pm. Orange card awarded to those passing the course.
-Club president, Gary Napier, ask board member, Les Gooch to explain to club members what the board of directors had discussed & decided to act on with regards to the finances of our club.
*Les Gooch began by sharing some history. Approximately (3) yrs ago R.C. Taylor and Gary Napier found this property. They brought the idea of the club purchasing their own grounds before the members. At the time, there were approx 20 active members and members were meeting where ever there was free meeting space. Members agreed. They went to the bank for money to purchase the property. Bank loan was approx $130,000 plus with closing costs, etc added to the $128,000 needed for the property. Interest rate at the time was at 6%.
First year’s interest payment was $7,680—nothing paid on the principal. Money for interest payment was from fish fry & selling of raffle tickets.
Second year’s interest was at 6&1/2%, interest payment of $8,640 paid from fish fry and raffle tickets, nothing paid on the principal.
Our third year’s interest is 6&3/4% with our interest payment being $8,960. Our interest rate for next year is going to approx 7% may be more than 7.
From our Sept 2004 fish fry we paid approx $3,000 on our principal amount.
Liability insurance on our property was approx $2,800 for the first year now it’s gone to approx $5,000 per year. This insurance hike was a big factor in the board of directors deciding to increase club dues.
The board of directors is proposing to the general club membership that any club member who is able financially & feels strongly towards our club to loan to the club $5,000. This $5,000 note from you to CCSC would pay 3.5% interest yearly back to them. Interest would be approx $175 received on the $5,000 note. Members having a note to the club can elect to donate the $175 back to the club. Any member needing to recall their $5,000 note for any reason must give the club sixty days to buy their note. When the club purchases the note back from a member, other members on a list to purchase notes, may be given the opportunity to purchase that member’s note. Your $5,000 note would be guaranteed. At the current time, we have 15 members/families committed to purchase these notes. We would like to have 25 members/families. All transactions of notes must be through the board of directors and club officers.
We, the club, are trying to get our property paid for. We feel we have beat our friends and neighbors to death by continually asking them to purchase raffle tickets and give donations.
Facts, our property has doubled in value since our purchase. Interest rates on the rise maybe going to 10 &12%, we want to have our property paid for.
Our goal is to continue to grow and make improvements to our property. We have several projects (rifle range, etc) that we have not been able to begin because of lack of money. It took approx $6,500 last year for our basic expenses of insurance & utilities. This does not include our interest payment.
Les asked for discussion or questions about the board’s proposal.
-One club member brought up the idea of lifetime memberships costing $1,000 each & members 6 months to pay. One member ask if a member could pay a $1,000.
Members discussed the proposal giving pros & cons for the $5,000 note instead of lifetime memberships of $1,000.
Gary, club president, took back over the meeting. Gary bragged on volunteer workers for their continuous giving of time, labor, and monies to our club. Gary explained to club members that to continue to be a club member you only needed to pay the yearly membership dues. He hoped no one would put themselves in a hardship by borrowing the $5,000.
Other discussion:
Club member, Irene Lamb, ask about the membership increases, some members had already only paid $35, were they to make up the difference. Club president, answered by saying that anyone wanting to make up the difference could and those that didn’t their membership wouldn’t be affected. (New Yearly Membership is $60)
Club member, Paul Young, ask if the date had been set yet for our annual fish fry? Club president said this would be decided at next board mtg.
No further discussion. No door prize available.
A suggestion made by Betty Frazier to sell tickets 50/50 at meetings to pay for door prizes.
Motion to dismiss made by Les Gooch, seconded by Mike Carrier.
Closing prayer, Curt Herrington
respectfully submitted,
Brenda Williams, club secretary
